Laundry Around the World

Have you ever thought about how good we have it when it comes to doing laundry in the USA? It may be a weekly chore that some people don’t care to do, but we certainly have it easier than some other countries. In India, 8,000 dhobis, or washermen, gather at the world’s largest outdoor laundry in Mumbai where they beat the clothes against rocks, then rinse and air dry them. Dryers are very rare in most parts of Europe. Instead, people hang their laundry outside on their balcony or on drying racks. In some parts of impoverished Africa and Central and South America they use nature’s washing machine – they wash their clothes in a nearby stream. Have you ever thought how astronauts wash their clothes? Well, they don’t. Once they have enough dirty laundry they put them in an old spaceship and launch their dirty clothes towards Earth. Are you thinking that's one incredible laundry delivery service? Well unfortunately, the spaceship burns up in the Earth’s atmosphere, so no laundry pickup and delivery in space. So laundry may be not your favorite chore to do, but in comparison to others, we have it great.

The Missing Sock Laundromat offers wash and fold, laundry pickup and delivery, commercial laundry, and self service laundry to help make life a little easier!
